So just what is "anime" anyway?

"Anime" is the Japanese take on the English word "animation". However, unlike animation in America, animation or "anime" in Japan is not just for kids and the subject matter can range from deep, action packed science fiction stories to slapstick humor to even soap-operaish romance. In short, the only real difference between anime and other television shows and movies is that they are animated. While it's true that there have been sevearl American animated shows that are different than just your run of the mill "Saturday morning" variety that are aimed at a broader audience in recent years, the Japanese have actually been doing this for quite some time.

Anime and the Internet

The fledgling anime fan quickly finds that the Internet is one of the greatest sources of information about Anime. However, while there are  LOTS of great pages and resources available, almost all assume you already know a lot about anime. There are some pages out there to introduce a new fan to the basics of anime and I have found them very helpful, but none I've found seem to do a completely thorough job. So, this is my attempt to provide links to all the good newbie information already out there and also provide some other tips and information that I think you might find helpful.
